Dual Duty: A Disguised, Devious Deity - by Dharken
Original artwork by
Dharken! Go praise him here, on the original posting: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5567752/
I wanted to post something, gosh darnit. :E
I'm sitting on a fair-sized pile of pictures, but I'm not allowing myself to upload them without proper prosework to partner with them. For this piece, though, the companion story is more or less being told constantly over on Dharken's gallery. So you should go look (in his scraps, mostly)!
For those of you not familiar, the fabulously prolific Dharken started creating his own little superhero world about a year and a few months ago. In essence, it was an alternate world to the one his characters already inhabited. The handful of main characters he drew became the most prominent of the heroes and villains, with powers and costumes and back-stories. It was all great fun!
It only got more amusing as he slowly added more characters of his own and of his friends and fans, to the burgeoning superhero world he was making.
Thanks to me openly declaring my affinity for the 'super' version of Obsidian (normal version: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4091394/ ), which had been renamed 'The Black Python' ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3769003/ ) for more flare, Dharken came up with an idea to make Amethystine into the trickster god he had been thinking about. Or rather, the question of how Obsidian had been cursed to become a were-snake/were-naga hadn't been fully answered, and I all but volunteered myself.
Regardless of how Dharken came up with it, the end story was, as near as I recall, that Obsidian had been exploring some ancient ruins and had awakened/gotten the notice of Amethystine, the trickster deity (the bigger of the two pictured above), who proceeded to curse the tall, dark dragon.. AS WELL as implanting memories of a draconic companion. A best friend who'd been accompanying him on the expedition (the smaller of the two above).
So yes, those two in the picture above ARE the same being. In disguise and not.
Amethystine then disguised himself as said best friend and returned with Obsidian/The Black Python to watch the 'fun' unleashed into the mortal's life. Ame moved in with his victim.. or rather, he 'had always lived there'! The deity also eventually took to shifting into a similarly serpentine shape (not his original form, more a naga version of the disguise, not pictured here) and accompanying The Black Python out when his were-curse was activated.
I should say that although we use the term 'were-' in this case, I believe it's not linked (solely) to the moon.. in all likelihood, Amethystine causes Obsidian to turn naga whenever he's bored. The term holds true in that the poor victim doesn't realize his predicament, nor does he remember where he was or what he was doing while in were-naga form.
Really, though, you should just watch
Dharken, so you wouldn't need my long winded explanations! :P :}===<
Apologies to Todd if I got any details wrong. Feel free to correct me, please!

I'm glad you still like how this turned out. Your explanation/description works pretty well for me to explain or outline the whole concept and idea behind the character.
The whole arms up thing was more like a "Tada! Here I am!" because I think the gods of this world would be huge showmen or attention sponges wanting everyone to notice them. It seemed to work with the more reserved manner of the "disguised" version and how one kind of wants attention while the other is about blending in and hiding.
