What used to be The Hilltop Inn, a bar and grill with live music in Maryland. Literally burned down like 6 days ago. The ruins you see were hidden behind many years worth of modern additions, and are the original structure/s. I honestly had no idea they were even there.
Its a classic Mid Atlantic design, probably built sometime in the early to mid 1800s(Edit: 1839, I was right!), maybe in stages. Would have drawn from Quaker influence and been very plain(looking much the same as it does now). Built of fieldstone, covered with Stucco later. What I find really interesting is that section on the left side of the first floor. It looks like it could be an older structure the rest of the building was built around. Just going by the much smaller window and lines in the stonework. This building is on a prominent corner and its very large for a house of that era, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was originally a stagecoach inn, possibly the reason its still called "Inn".

Being from ze old world, I never expected archaeology like this from the post-colonial US. We here don't usually think much about it. "My carpet is older than your whole nation" and all that ^^'
I appreciate you opening this window for me.
That said, indeed that bottom left corner was there first. Would like to examine the stones closer.
Are the right-facing wall all a part of the building, or these are next houses in the row?
