The T88B is an updated version of the already well-designed t88A "Hunter" class Main Battle Tank. Like the T88A, the T88B turret has modular side sponsons, you can put whatever you want there-- small missile launchers, grenade launchers, blasters, etc. From the factory they come with two blaster cannons on the left side controlled by the scan operator; there is a grenade launcher/mortar on the right side operated by either the gunner or the commander as needed. Conversions in the field (authorized usually by Battalion or higher for mission) can include: Blaster rotary cannons Missile launchers of different sizes, include laser-guided or wire-guided if deemed necessary A sort of recoilless rifle type thing using funnelized hot tungsten as an explosively-formed projectile -Other as needed.
The upgrades are a new and improved engine; a more protected drivers compartment that has been moved farther back, to be just aft of the forward slopping armor, a new main barrel design as well as several other internal updates.
The tank pictured shows its side sponsons as being empty, notice the circular aperture that allows for full rotation of whatever armament is mounted.

Good stuff.
Heck, you can probably even put fiber-optic drone launch spools on the sponsons now that I think of it; for those times when cheap one-way drones without ECM gear is needed.
Maybe even some enterprising (and mischievous) operator may have even made giant party poppers for the sides... just to see who in the motor pool doesn't have clean underwear.
