My contribution to that workspace meme that was going around a long time ago. I wanted to do this before, but never really had a clearly defined workspace (or one that was pretty enough that I wanted to show it off. lol). Now that I do, I thought I'd take a stab at it...so here it is, all nice and labeled. Its still a work-in-progress kinda - lots of wall space that needs to be filled cuz we just moved in and we don't have much to hang up yet. (I hate empty walls, its like a blank piece of paper to me and you KNOW what that does to an artist. lol) Anyway...if I'm not working at my desk, I'm usually either working at the dining room table next to the computer or at the computer scanning/uploading stuff.

Beautiful heart leafed philodendrons you have there.
Out of all the trailing vines I've kept in my house, the sunlight always choked those out.
Then again, my place is more suited to tropical and sun loving plants. =]
Your work space is very neat and tidy!
I wish mine could stay that way. Haha.

Yeah Philodendrons make excellent apartment plants cuz they don't need tons of sunlight to stay happy. I've always lived in apartments where I had very little light, and could never keep plants alive, except for these. This apartment has better light though, so I'm hoping I can add a few more plants to my collection now. Also...I cleaned a bit before I took pictures. lol 5 minutes before these were taken, I had papers and art supplies all over the desk. >u<
The laminator works great so far (I've only used it three times so far since I got it lol), and the books are kind of a mix of art books and animal books that I pull out to use as reference occasionally.
I just hung my badges above the window and eventually I'd like to get more art-inspiring stuff hung on the walls around the computer...but since we just moved, I don't have much to hang up yet. I do like an open, uncluttered space though - if my workspace is cluttered, my mind is cluttered, and then I don't get anything done. >.<

I am totally jealous of your workspace! Mine is ... yeah, hodgepodge and I'm not proud of it. =/ I have white walls and boxes everywhere and no plants. :( It's a shame, too, because I have lots of pretty things that I could hang on my walls. First, though, I need a giant shelf, and I don't know where it's going to go. Moving sucks. Other things to be jealous of: you have a nice big window, and I'm in a basement with zero light. Also, you have a rat.
My room does, however, have the cutest three-legged cat in all existence. ^^ That helps.

Aww, well at least your space only looks the way it does cuz you're transitioning. The nice thing about moving is you pretty much get a clean slate and you can set things up exactly the way you want them - my art desk and my supplies were one of the first things I moved over here, cuz I wanted to set up my workspace right away so I wouldn't miss too much art time. That sucks you're stuck in a basement though - they're nice and cool in the summer, but not having windows isn't fun. Get yourself a nice bright lamp to work under.

Well ... there's more to it than just the transition. The short version is that I could REALLY use a garage sale and a trip to a nearby furniture store (like Ikea!) After that, I think my room will be decent.

I understand completely. ^^ I didn't feel moved in at all until my computer workspace was reassembled and the internet was set up.

I don't mind the basement life. Aside from being cool in the summer, the surrounding earth makes a natural noise buffer, making it a calm and private retreat away from the rest of the world. As for light, I have a pair of lamps on either side of the room that provide a comfortable level of light. One of them is on a timer, set to be on from 9 am to 7 pm, loosely mimicking daylight hours. The latter is a recent addition to help regulate my sleep cycle. I think it's working so far.

lol I actually used to have a mint plant - I had one of those aerogarden things and it started off in that, and once I pulled it out and repotted it it got HUGE. Ended up dying though cuz I forgot to water it a few too many times. >.< I do plan to eventually have a lot of herbs either out on my patio or near my windows. :)
I need something to repel flies...they seem to really like this apartment for some reason. When we moved in there were 2 or 3 buzzing around, finally managed to kill them all off and now there's a whole new wave of them. I don't know where they're coming from, there's nothing for them to feed from cuz we're not really messy, unless they're going for the guinea pig and rat cages. I hear basil is supposed to repel them but my basil plant died before I moved over here. (I really have bad luck with plants. lol)
maybe its something outside... like nearby. open garbage cans. or god forbid something in the walls.
But you could build a fly trap to try and catch/kill all of them
As for the plants, I have a natural... green thumb with them apparently. For one, make sure the roots don't get waterlogged, ie excess water can drain away when they do get watered, as well as perhaps setting up a way for the plants to get water slowely, so you only have to fill a reservoir say once a week.
you might consider aloe as its a succulent and is often considered a weed. so it does well being underwatered. Best in wide shallow pots that drain easy. a Aloes root system doesn't go that deep. Benefit to growing a giant aloe plant is that if you burn yourself.. easy salve. I have read that it is poisonous to cats... and other people have no issues. I had no issues with my cat when the aloe was inside (too cold) but to be sure I put a small amount of Tabasco sauce on the outer leaves which were likely to be nibbled.
I could happily go on. One day I will have a jungle.
Oh and I hate watering but its one of those things, I see my plant wilting I go grab the watering can.
Oh and hopefully your not expecting plants to live when they don't get much light, especially ones that require high amounts. No amount of the right watering will help them lol

Yeah the light issue is mostly what has stopped me in the past. I've always lived in apartments or rooms that didn't get much light, so the only plants I've really been able to keep were philodendrons, bamboo and those wierd ones called Mother-in-law's Tongue. lol Watering is an issue too...its something that I try to keep up with now but I haven't always been the most diligent person on that note, which is weird cuz I remember to feed/water my critters. :/ My mom said she always watered on the same day every week so she'd never forget to do it. I'm trying to take up that habit.
This apartment has pretty large windows that face west, so in the evenings there is the potential for getting full sun through them. I also plan to keep several plants outside but not right now cuz our summer has been unusually hot and dry. (Well, I guess I could put a cactus or two out there lol)

I'm actually gonna try a glass coke bottle filled with water and stuck in a couple of my planters because the soil I nabbed from my neighbor (bagged...) was crap and the water runs through way to fast, but mebbe the coke bottle will help. not that the plants are suffering.... its just very obvious when they need water.
and all plants end up doing better with natural light, my ex's mum gave us a mother in law tongue and said to keep it inside only during the winter. All else fails though you can buy a plant lamp. I actually used to have a planted tank so I had a fishtank light that fed light to the watery plants
