There are several pretty consistent factors about the land directly below your floating island.
1) Water pools
2) Exposed Dirt Backgrounds (especially in said water pools)
3) Clay near/at the surface.
Also, as of I think like, vers. 1.0.5, all underground jungles are spawned directly below the above ground jungle.

I was figuring it was going to fail due to other things, like sea level, and not being atthe edge of the world, but eeeeh if anything i'll have a big tank full of water when i am done. btw the generator trick is fucking god, and made me actually have an interest in lava and water for once
