SHARKWEEK: Longnose Sawshark
Continuing Shark Week with the bizarre and snaggle-toothed Longnose Sawshark! For devlexuswolf's Shark Week Sketch Jam on DA.
This was fun. I think sawsharks look rather draconic, so I tried to bring a bit of that out in this drawing. It proved difficult to settle on a pose and decent composition, though.
Sawsharks --not to be confused with sawfish, which are actually rays-- are bottom dwellers who like to feed on squid and crustaceans. The purpose of the rostral saw is debilitate prey. The "teeth" protruding from the rostrum are not real teeth, but modified tooth-like structures called denticles.
