It's being made by one and a half people, one of whom is just doing the UI bits.
Given a choice of doing hand animations for fifty-some firearms and a few dozen other equipable items, or finishing the maps, adding the higher-end monsters, bosses and quests, I respect the creator's choice to go with the 'floating weapon' meme. It's not like it's the first game to do it, and given how polished the gunplay is it really isn't an issue for gameplay.
