I personally believe that toeless shoes can help highlight the distinctive features of non-human characters. Although it is theoretically feasible and even necessary for non-human characters to wear human clothing, doing so can diminish their own unique qualities, transforming them from "interesting non-humans" into "weird, deformed humans".
