"- Good night madam Olivia, where is Lady Miasma?
- Good night Drakkiel, Lady Velenosa is busy in a complex ritual with the rest of her coven, she told me to meet with you and help you with whatever you require.
- Well I spent the whole day dealing with the administrative issues of the village, and Madam Olivia , the situation on the village is degrading by the day and we need to act fast!
- what do you mean? everything was stable last week.
- Yes but in this small period we had multiple caravans of refugees, Immigrants and even volunteers arriving day and night, people are braving the dark forests to reach this place and our infrastructure is not ready for this.
- I was expecting it at some degree, this place was always a refuge for outcasts of the larger society...but I guess it only illustrates how serious the crisis is out of there, its no surprise that small villages and ill prepared towns are succumbing to the Bound and now the responsability of helping the survivors fall into our hands...
- Not just that, but there is also people here who came to fight along side Lady Miasma, the main square is full of ill prepared weirdos who want to join the war effort...she is inspiring resistance wich is good the problem is this people dont stand a chance in a real fight!
- how's the armoury situation in the village?
- Pitiful! we have around 52 working muskets 5 blunderbuss, 300 kilos of black powder and only one sealed box of shot!
- This is dire, but I can send a message to my foreman to order the production of at least 100 muskets, this is all I can discreetly slip out of the capital this month, the gunpowder and bullets we going to need to order from a third party supplier to not raise suspicion.
-Whats the reason for the secrecy madam?
-it's complicated, I'm entangled on a vicious political game with the capital's ruling family, they are political enemies of Lady Velenosa and they cannot discover I'm supplying her coven with my weapons, for now I have the upper hand, but I cant afford to be careless....
- Arrrrgh I hate when rich people drama gets in the way of progress! we are fighting against a literal tide of merciless undead why can't these fuckers help us??
- They rather die over their piles of gold than lending a single coin or favor to help...they did it in the previous crysis and they will do it again, and if they discover about my dealings with Lady Velenosa they will actively try to disrupt our efforts.
- Frustrations aside...to house the last big caravan of refugees that arrived I took control of that big abandoned tavern near the south gate, the building looks stable and it was already equiped with some beds and potbelly stoves so those people dont freeze to death, but I will need more improvized beds and blankets.
- That building...that was no tavern...it was a brothel with a recent and very dark story...this is why it was abandoned.
- Care to elaborate madam Olivia?
- Well it was supposed to be your ordinary brothel serving travelers and so on...but lady Velenosa discovered the owner of that place was forcing a group of young girls into prostitution in secret.
- That's barbaric! unacceptable!
- Before Lady Velenosa and her coven could act he killed the girls and buried their bodies in the basement in the hopes of hiding his crime...so for most of the people of the village that place is cursed even haunted...
- But did this man got at least punished for that?
- did you saw that moaning mass of flesh cleaning the snow outside?
- yes...why?
- that thing used to be him and the patrons who took advantage of the girls....their execution was quite...teatrical...I don't wanna go in details to not revolt my stomach...
- I'm not a fan of necromancy but that's a very good use of it...all this story its very disturbing but still we need to house people and that building is perfect for that, tomorrow I will go there and install some runic sun lanterns to avoid any hauntings that may occur...in fact I want to spread these runic lanterns all over the village.
- Sun lanterns? what are these for? scare ghosts away?
- They can do that, but they are also a very economical way of lighting the village streets, not to mention they passively bring a feeling of hope to those who baske in its light, we Mountainborns use it to light our mines and holds, to keep darkness at bay.
- Sounds great, but we gonna need more than that if we want to keep the Bound at bay...specifically I think the village needs heavy artillery.
- I was about to arrive in this point too, I agree we need large caliber weapons, lady Miasma did a good job with the fortifications and masonwork of the village, but the towers lay silent and undefended!
- precisely, we need naval cannons on those towers ,rows of 32-pounders armed with grapeshot and incendiary rounds, and the gates overlooking the roads need even larger guns, preferably long range mortars!
- Yes! I mean the forest is too dense to any significant force to cross so they have to come through the roads, imagine how devastating would be if we bomb their forces all crammed in the old road!
- 35cm heavy mortars would devastate anything on the road, especially if we load it with incendiary shrapnel or flesh eater gas!
- It may be pipe dream, but what if we brought one of those monster mortars from the capital? I mean in theory could you produce and transport it here?
- Well it would be a bureaucratic nightmare to produce that discreetly, and it would require a specially built steam wagon to carry it...we are talking at least 70 tones of pure cast iron, it would take me at least 5 months of non stop work on the factory, and to bring it trough the narrow and muddy forest roads would be a monumental task...but I cant deny we would be near invincible with one of those here...theoricaly I mean.
- alright let's focus on what we can do, how fast do you think you can deliver the naval cannons for the towers?
- I can slip around 5 canons per batch, I can mask it as a order from nearby kingdoms and then the steam wagons take a detour through the forest...it may take the entire year to smuggle cannons enough, its slow but its the best I can do...
- well it's better than nothing, we just gotta hope the Bound will give us a full year of peace.
- Well we are not defenseless right now, we have Lady Velenosa and her entire coven defending this region, we can put up a fight.
- Yes...but don't you fear we are putting too many eggs in the same basket? everyone in the village is putting their hopes that lady Miasma is going to save them...she may be immortal but not invincible, if we lose her even if temporarily our whole castle of cards will crumble down...
- I dread to think you are right...but you may be right, I will put an order for those cannons right away..."
