...only one can have the spotlight.
Most people think of magic as illusions or tricks, unaware that it is quite real and powerful... thus why Jack mostly chooses to hide his natural abilities in order to not bring attention to himself. But after some convincing by his friends, Jack decided give the magician business a try. After all, a safe place where he could use the powers he's had for centuries could prove a nice distraction... and maybe bring some needed cash. He debuted with small shows on bars here and there, until he catched the attention of the owner of a small theater, who eagerly offered to give Jack a whole show to showcase his magics to the city. After some days of thinking about it, Jack accepted. Part of him wanted to experience a little bit of fame after being hidden for so long, and he seemed bound to get it, as thanks to word of mouth for his small acts have made his opening night be booked full.
But the word also reached the ears of Lucius, a famous magician known worldwide who just so happens to be making a tour, and has scheduled a show on the same night as Jack. Lucius was never too fond of competition, always thinking that only he deserves the spotlight. This has led to many rival magicians... mysteriously disappearing, while Lucius conveniently gained a new helper or trained animal for his tricks. And the news of this upcoming newbie that seem quite talented only made the sheep start scheming.
The night arrived, and Jack was mentally preparing himself to start. He peaked from behind the curtains of the stage, he gulped at the amount of people that showed up today. It was no more than 20 or so yes, but that didn't help to quell his nerves. But as they say, the show must go on...
After a few minutes, the curtains part away, revealing the stage with Jack being highlighted by a single light casting down from the ceiling. He was already sweating from nervousness and now from the heat of the lights, he could only hope that it didn't show on the cheap suit he bought the night before. But that train of thought was quickly interrupted by the clapping of the audience, he gave a long sigh, steeled his nerves and bowed to his eager audience. He made a step forward... only to feel himself be yanked into the air. He couldn't even say a word before his whole vision went dark. The audience just watched awkwardly at the now empty stage, wondering if this was part of the show. A single person broke the deafening silence with a single, excited word: "Woo!"
The raven felt himself being dragged in an unnatural speed across an immense dark tunnel, on which a single light could be seen at the end. He prepared himself for whatever laid on the other side of that rapidly approaching light, may it be a dangerous fall or another reality full of demons. The light was blinding, all-consuming and... Pop!
When Jack opened his eyes again, he found himself in... another stage? One that was fancier, bigger and with more than a hundred people looking right at him. He tried to move but soon found out that he was trapped in a hat... that could impossibly hold his whole body due to how small it was in comparison, only his head was poking out from it. Then, he heard a voice right beside him. "As you all see, i have summoned a bird out of thin air!!" The audience clapped and laughed as an embarrassed blush appeared on Jack's face. The one holding the hat he was trapped in was no other than Lucius, the famous mage he heard about from time to time. The sheep got close to him and whispered to his ear. "I dont like when someone tries to steal the spotlight from me, and you will learn it firsthand." Lucius gave a small malicious laugh, as he knew that soon he would eliminate the competition in the most spectacular way possible, and this bird would certainly be useful as another set of cards for later.
Jack didn't take long to piece all together, knowing that this act will surely take a turn for the worst soon enough. He needed to teleport away or simply roast this egocentric sheep with a fireball... or he could actually steal the spotlight from him...
A smirk appeared on Jack's face, before his form started to take an ethereal shape, as if it were becoming purple smoke.
"Now for my next trick i shall- ACK!" Lucius was too distracted entertaining the crowd to notice the spirit suddenly diving into his chest. The sheep's body froze up in shock as Jack's ethereal form leaved the hat and slowly entered his being, the sensation being unlike anything he's ever felt before, like something warm growing inside you and filling every part of you. Lucius felt his thoughts becoming foggier, as if they were being pushed to the background. Slowly he felt himself becoming disconnected from his own form, until someone else took his place.
As the last of Jack's form entered his body, the sheep's eyes closed and his body went limp for a second. When those eyes opened again, they were now an intense red instead of his normal coloration. A smirk crossed the sheep's face as he straightened up, enjoying the bliss of having a new body. Jack stared at his new form, now covered in wool instead of feathers, having hooves instead of talons, having a handsome muzzle instead of a beak. He couldn't help but smile at the new fancy suit he now wore, no doubt tailor made for Lucius, way better than the cheap one he wore mere minutes ago. It fit him quite well, and it even had a cape!!
His inspection ended earlier than expected when he heard a very annoying voice in the back of his head. "HOW DARE YOU!? YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST STEAL MY FORM JUST LIKE THAT?! I SWEAR I'LL MAKE YOU INTO-" Lucius was quite aware of the state he was in, much to Jack's annoyance. He let out of a frustrated sigh, as he need his host to be quite awake for the revenge to truly hit. Thankfully, he could silence that annoying voice as if he would hit the mute button on tv controller!! "OH DON'T YOU DA-" And like that, peace was returned to his mind, thankfully before he could get a headache.
A cough suddenly made Jack snap back to reality. He stared in front on him and saw a multitude of people sitting on the rows of the theater he was now in. His heart sank in knowing that he now had more people than ever looking at him, an immense pressure came over him as he just stood frozen for a few seconds. But then, something began building inside him... a confidence that was not quite his own, a need to amaze the people who had come to see him, a want to hear their applause and drink on the praise. "Well... the show must go on..." Jack whispered to himself in his new voice, his tone sounding not quite himself. He put the hat back on his head while striking a pose... and the audience begins clapping and hollering in delight. No doubt the audience thinked the whole thing was a planned part of the whole act, a neat trick of the light and some very nice smoke machines, and they remained blissfully unaware of the... change in management that just took place.
The show continued, Jack making use of Lucius memories to follow the planned schedule and even improve on some of the tricks. He loved every second of it, he wanted a small taste of fame and recognition, but now he got a whole buffet of it. Something about being in this body, just amplified the feelings of wanting to be admired and be the star of the show, and he was happy to follow along these new feelings. With his own powers combined with Lucius own, he had a vast array of options to make this show even better.
As the night went on, the star magician heard a whisper in the crowd. "Wow, this show is even better than the last time i went to one." The sheep couldn't help but smirk, that comment only fueling his new ego. And the new Lucius just said with a whisper... "I could get used to this..."
