What's this in reference to? Been a long time since I played. What was being attempted in-game?

Been like a decade since I last played. Ain't there suppose to be at least a 5 block gap between the two (excluding the source blocks)?

Actually you can fit the whole thing within 4 blocks total, water in a one block hole and a 2 block hole for it flow into with a one block gap between that and the lava for the cobble cuz the water flows into the hole and can't touch the lava source, and the lava can't flow into the water cuz the cobble blocks it.
