One can have many opinions on France and its inhabitants. But one would also be factually incorrect were they to claim the French do not know how to draw pretty demoiselles~ Seriously speaking, France is a powerhouse when it comes to this in animated content, be it actual shows or games. And of course, they're delightfully stacked in other cultural and creative departments as well.
When it comes to the Rayman games, they are a fond memory. I could play only very little of them; hence, for most of my early life, I used a quasi-busted PC. That and because back then, I was not so well-versed in the art of emulators and piracy. To make up for that, I remember watching some gameplay on YouTube and having a fairly good time. I was not exactly super engrossed in the whole gaming sphere. But I remember being mesmerised by the sheer amount of creativity and colour I'd witness on the screen. The style, the fluidity, it was something that blew my mind. I also recollect I would draw Rayman a lot, but unfortunately, those drawings were done on crappy pieces of paper that likely ended up in the dumpster. Still, that remains a cornerstone for me, being one of the things that motivated me to keep on drawing and pursue this interest.
I am actually surprisingly happy with this one. It was lots of fun to work on and the result in more than satisfactory. I feel as though I have improved somehow, and this drawing could be a first step to something greater. Either that, or I am simply being a pedantic geek who desperately tries to uplift his fairly low self-esteem. FYI, I know I forgot something about Betilla's design. She usually has some cloth wrapped around her wrists, but I only remembered that when I was halfway done with it. So, yeah, that was the point of no return. Initially, I was conceptualising that I would draw all the other nymphs from the Rayman Verse. Heck, maybe I would give my hand at that one nymph design Ubisoft scrapped for whatever reason. Yet, I will hesitate. As much as I love drawing, I have other stuff I gotta take care of, whether I like it or not. C'est la vie, non? What's more, I would rather not get burnt out and rush some of them, resulting in subpar results. Plus, diversity is a beautiful thing, and I like having that in what I draw.
