During the first War to End All Wars against the martians, many weapons developers believed that projectile weapons would go the way of the Doh Doh Bird. It wasn't until later when it was discovered heat rays could cause explosive decompression that Bolt Weapons would be created using specialized cartridges that could punch through armor and skin but not space plating. Coilguns were the next major step in Bolt Weapon technology.

Terran Coilguns were designed to fire specialized energy charges known as Pulse Rounds, cartridges that prove lethal against infantry but not have the firepower to potentially punch through a ships hull. This advancement in weapons technology has made Earth the envy of many planets and often has become a target by Zero G Dogs looking to make a big score or get an upgrade in firepower.
