He's a good boy from Greymoore, a land currently at war and under a necromancer king. He is just trying to survive to get his mom her meds.
He was part of the Greymooran rangers, ended up in the evil king's army, and defected. He used to like rainy days since it meant not a lot happened. That's still true, though undead armies don't seem to care about moving in the rain.
