Despite he "Downer" ending I still enjoyed this comic. I mean, isn't that what music is all about? Not how much enjoys the tunes, but also how it makes them feel? Besides, I really enjoy going to thrift stores and flea markets in hopes of finding some of the disks I lost through the years.
Yes indeed, Gene Deitch was a big influence on me. This particular story was probably also influenced by Gene's sometimes collaborator, Cliff Roberts. Cliff did some illustrations for a kids book about jazz, and in retrospect, I may have had his drawings in the back of my mind.
