[Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.]
Creatures that live in the depths of the most monstrous lands on this planet, adapted not only to survive in places as uninhabitable as possible, but also to pull into their impenetrable swamp of slow, painful death all who carefreely passed by... En'hetebbe Glashtyn, or simply cù-uisge or commonly named cuisge for short, are vicious species from Kharn.
LORE
from an untitled bestiary book: page titled "En'hetebbe Glashtyn and how to detect them"
In the silence of the marshes, one can hear the whisper of water and the splash of fog. Where the air is nearly tangible with humidity and one's feet sink into the mire, something lurks — something that remains unseen until it chooses to close its jaws around your living flesh.
In the writings of researchers, it is referred to as En'hetebbe Glashtyn, but the locals, who still carry remnants of lost ancestral dialects on their tongues, use a simpler name for the predator — cù uisge or simply cuisge. Gaunt and elongated, standing about one and a half meters tall at the shoulder, the beast blends almost seamlessly with the reeds and fens, rendering itself invisible to the unwary traveller. Despite its lean frame and seemingly fragile build, the creature is extremely dangerous: its jaws are constructed in such a way that once it bites down, it will not release its prey until it has died a slow and agonizing death.
It is known that although individuals may appear similar, slight morphological differences exist between them. However, these variations do not affect behaviour or hunting strategies — they are mainly found in the structure of bodily appendages. Some accounts describe fins and gills, others mention sparse feathers or even scales. No clear sexual dimorphism has been observed. Judging the accuracy of such reports is difficult: firsthand encounters are extremely rare, and given the creature’s elusive nature, much of what is written may well be distorted fragments born of fear and imagination.
The creatures are not intelligent in the human sense, yet their instincts are almost mystically refined. They can sense fear and use emotion as a tool, luring their victims deeper into the bog by weaving illusions from the intoxicating mist that shrouds their hunting grounds. The stronger the individual, the more masterfully it manipulates the fog — crafting visions, warping space, and stripping the victim of reason, then life.
En'hetebbe Glashtyn cannot be tamed. It does not seek out interaction, but waits patiently for a traveller's mistake. The mist and illusions make perception unreliable, and the predator’s jaws, combined with its lethal patience, leave little hope of survival. And if you hear the water whispering and feel shadows closing in around you, remember: the marshes do not merely keep their secrets — something hidden in the water chooses who walks away alive… and who becomes part of the mire forever.
