Enchantia Screenshots 011 Saurians characters
The Saurians are the Sci-fi faction of Enchantia. At first glance, they even seem out of place in this fantasy world. They're a faction with slightly more mature lore, aimed at the more edgy players. The Saurians are “Space Dinosaurs”, inspired by the animated series Dinosaucers and brought back from some of my old scrapped projects—I thought of them while playing Amber Isle.
Arriving on the planet Enchantia via portals, they are originally from the “Paleo Planet.” The Saurians don’t know how to use magic—or rather, they can but don’t know how to properly, as they lack sufficient magical knowledge (though they can still learn magic, after all they are Enchantians and have the Enchantium/Magic flowing inside them). Since their civilization chose the scientific path, they have plasma weapons, cyborg implants, robotic devices, highly advanced bases, and naval and terrestrial vehicles resembling starships.
Consequently, in the core rulebook of the Enchantia RPG, the Saurians are incompatible with classic medieval fantasy classes such as knights, wizards, and similar ones, but they have their own unique classes: the mage is replaced by the technomancer, who can hack, use advanced devices and gadgets, and operate drones; the marine, a modern version of the knight, armed with firearms, who evolves into subclasses like the gunner, the assault trooper, the sniper, etc.; the sorcerer is replaced by the Esper.
Their theme is “Aquatic” (combined with “Sci-fi”), with underwater bases anchored to the seabed. Their vehicles are mostly submarines; their jetpacks are actually turbine backpacks used to move underwater, and their uniforms and suits are designed for underwater exploration. They don’t travel through space like classic sci-fi starships; their space colonization is limited to satellites and colonies on moons and planets, but they can easily reach new planets through portals called “Warp Portals.” Additionally, they are very environmentally conscious and care deeply about preserving and nurturing the environments they colonize, and they are a friendly faction toward Enchantia’s natives, but they look unfavorably upon A.I. Their technology is a mix of Cyberpunk and Atomic Punk—very rough and reminiscent of the ’80s, yet also extremely advanced. They are a blend of “Subnautica” and “Bioshock,” with technology more focused on aquatic environments than space.
LORE: The Paleo Planet, native planet of the Saurians, is a “Flooded” and “post-apocalyptic” world. Years ago, the Saurians were at the peak of their society, with a Solar Punk style, featuring highly advanced metropolises with shining buildings. Their planet is characterized by a tropical climate, and the vegetation consists of Amazonian jungles. The only problem was the fauna, made up of various alien monsters, some as large as buses, but nothing unmanageable.
Then came the Golden Age of Robotics and A.I.; robots were used almost everywhere, from small private businesses to large industries, even serving wealthy families. While the richer social classes benefited from this, the lower social classes began to protest and revolt, as robots replaced real workers everywhere (the initial plot of Detroit: Become Human, but with dinosaurs in this case). Then, as in any classic sci-fi scenario, the robots initiated a rebellion that escalated into a war between the Saurians and the Rebel A.I. In the end, the Saurians won; the surviving A.I. fled into space, but not before hijacking a massive ice asteroid toward the planet. This caused a massive atomic explosion, a drastic rise in sea levels, and flooded the planet; the cities were completely submerged.
Now the Saurians have adapted their technology for marine environments. They live in underwater stations, mobile city-ships, and in metropolises made up of skyscrapers anchored to the seabed, whose tops reach the surface, creating artificial archipelagos. The rest of the natural landmasses consist of what were once mountain peaks, now turned into scattered tropical archipelagos and islands, highly sought after and with very high market prices; thus, only the wealthy can afford to live there. After the war, A.I. became forbidden, seen by the population as the embodiment of evil, but since they are necessary for Saurian society, the government decided to use the brains of criminals as “New A.I.” (in Warhammer 40K style).
In the following years, Saurian society became fully post-apocalyptic. Resources became scarce, and priority was given to exploiting underwater mines. The poor classes had to live on the lower levels of the city-ships and archipelago metropolises, in claustrophobic environments and sharing single “apartments” with large groups, while the rich lived on the upper floors, which were more spacious and luxurious. Food was limited to fish and algae, and sea monsters became more problematic and invasive; much of the terrestrial fauna became extinct.
The Saurians recovered quickly. The cities grew in size: more housing meant more living space, and the quality of life also improved significantly. Farm-ships were created where “cloned plants and animals” that had gone extinct during the war with the A.I. and due to the flooding were cultivated and raised, providing new varieties of food. The Saurians became more environmentally conscious, but problems such as social classes, claustrophobic environments, and hatred towards A.I. remain. Moreover, the population grew at a faster rate than food and housing could be produced. Because of the war, sea monsters became more aggressive due to collateral pollution, making resource extraction even more difficult.
The solution came when a group of scientists discovered the “Rift Dimension”: the fractured and chaotic space between worlds, formed as a result of their separation. From this discovery, the “Warp Portals” were created. But this void is far from empty — it resembles an endless web of branching crystal fractures, where space and time are distorted. Within it dwell entities: aggressive creatures known as “Void Demons” (this dimension is heavily inspired by the Warp from Warhammer 40K). Thus began the era of space colonization. On other planets, new and easily accessible resources were found, along with habitable environments. This saved the Saurians from another crisis like the one after the war. This is how the Saurians arrived on Enchantia. Note: unfortunately, the rebel A.I. also made it to Enchantia. There’s also a bit of rivalry with the “Merfolks Pirates” over control of the seas.
NOTE: I chose to insert myself as a character for this faction. I tend to add myself as an NPC in the stories I write — kind of like a personal signature. In reality, my sona is a sea dragon, but that character doesn't fit the lifestyle of the Draconians — and honestly, if I have the choice, I’d rather live in a high-tech environment than in a muddy, filthy medieval world. So, my Enchantia version is a Saurian, inspired by my dinosona from Amber Isle. I'm a blue Spinosaurus — an archaeologist, explorer, and collector working for the “Saurian Historical-Cultural Society.” However, my Enchantia self has the bad habit of collecting junk and various common items, then reselling them like a pawn shop — stretching the truth a bit and exaggerating their rarity to raise the selling price.
