I was spamming big tail commissions (or just things to sell), but now they're sold and being shipped, so it's back to posting smaller things.
A red and black scale-maille bracelet, with the colors going in little chevrons rather than in long stripes. You could think of the red and black as reminiscent of vampires, or goths, or something. I just think it's a pretty classic color combination.
Scale bracelets like this are $25, and I have a bunch of colors. This particular one you can buy on my Etsy page: http://www.etsy.com/listing/7914948.....aille-bracelet

I have tried in the past, and sadly the answer is not really. The side edges of the weave are pretty stable and regular, but the top and bottom edges are awkward, so that's one reason to have it going sideways. The other reason is, when you hang it vertically, the weave can be pulled side-to-side somewhat arbitrarily; so when you make a chain going the other direction, it stretches into a thin strip with scales flopping every which way, and it looks crappy.
I think the only nice-looking way to get a bracelet/choker with the scales pointing in the other direction would be to take a leather band and attach the scales onto it in the pattern you want.

So, I'll post some links to stuff that I've seen done.
Something like what I was talking about with the leather: http://www.etsy.com/listing/5495974.....n-scale-bracer Currently I'm not in a position to mess around with leather, though. I don't have the tools or materials, and for now at least I'm sticking with this one craft.
An alternative way of getting the scales in that orientation is making a larger piece, usually called a hand-flower: http://www.etsy.com/listing/6681068.....cale-handcover The idea for this type of piece is that it attaches to a finger as well, and the tension from that attachment pulls the weave out so it hangs right. I could do one of those for someone if they wanted, I just have not made one for myself as of yet.

Thanks for the links. I have heard one person talk about using smaller scales. but from the sounds of it they were attached onto a weave rather then actually being part of it.
for a choker could you do a weave that plunges down the front a little so the weight would keep it pulled taunt?

I'm not sure that would actually work all that well. The more weight you add to the front, the more the rest of it gets pulled taught, for one, and also there are issues with the geometry of the neck/shoulder connection.
This sort of scheme I think works better: http://www.etsy.com/listing/7827267.....ndant-necklace It's not exactly what you seem to be looking for, but it does keep the weave symmetrical, and the scales are orderly and neat.
