Honestly kinda ties into one of my other gripes-- mechanically, a lot of systems don't really have opportunities for characters to be grievously wounded without actually dying. You kinda have to hash things out on the spot. It's hard to, say, lose an eye, or a leg, which I find even more jarring in systems where functional prosthetics are (relatively) easy to get ahold of.
yeah I agree! We have been trying a system in our curse of strahd campaign where you can chose to half the damage of something or remain on one HP but you will roll on an injury table, sometimes you luck out and pull a hamstring or something or you can get a major injury and loose like an eye or badly break bones. it's been quite fun because the players are chosing to take the gamble bc they need to stay up rather than just getitng bullied for dropping to 0.
Interesting! I don't have much experience with 5E specifically but I can imagine that's pretty rough in Curse of Strahd particularly, since from what I've heard it sounds like one of the more challenging modules/campaigns out there no matter which edition it's been built for.
Yeah there is a lot of stuff you can waddle into which can just slaughter you!!! but they have got past the early level bump now and got the special story magic items so the two paladins alone can already deal a lot of damage to all the undead fellas,,, alongside there being a radiant soul monk a ranger and a warlock. a lot of combat ends so fast bc it is kill or be killed ajdshka
