Bia is born to a pair of rogues that traveled throughout the territories between kingdoms. When she is still very young, her parents are attacked and killed by hyenas, and she is then saved by a rogue lioness named Kutesa. Or, at least that's the story she was told. Unbeknownst to her, Kutesa had paid the hyena clan with a fresh zebra carcass to kill her parents so that she could swoop in and save the cub, as she saw her as a potential mate for her son.
Growing up, Kutesa told Bia of what her purpose was. When she came of age, she would become Hatari's mate and give him heirs for when he would become the new ruler of a nearby lion kingdom. She told her that it was because she was indebted to her new family, and that it was the least she could do since they saved her from death. Too young to understand, Bia agreed, and after Kutesa passes away years later, Hatari wastes no time trying to get some potential heirs from her.
Their first attempt results in two cubs: a boy and a girl. The girl was born healthy, but the boy sadly didn't make it. Hatari is frustrated by this, but he figures that he could always try again and names the surviving cub “Zira”. While Bia was saddened by the loss of one of her cubs, she was still glad to have a healthy daughter, and showers little Zira with love and affection. However, the same couldn’t be said for Hatari, as he puts her through some harsh training as soon as she’s old enough to walk. Hatari tells her that if they were going to claim their kingdom, then she needed to be a strong fighter.
As Zira grew, Hatari continued to try for a male heir with Bia, but their attempts resulted in nothing. When she does manage to conceive again when Zira is a little older, she sadly miscarries the litter soon afterwards. Hatari berates her for causing them to lose some potential sons, and when Zira jumps in to defend her, Hatari swipes at her which results in a noticeable notch in her right ear. Bia should’ve left him then and there, but she remembered what Kutesa told her when she was growing up. She was indebted to this family, and she literally had no one else in her life. If she were to leave Hatari, where would she go? Bia agrees to try again, and Zira begins to resent her for not fighting back against her cruel father.
Bia does manage to conceive again, but Hatari never gets to see this new litter as he and his cobra friend are both found dead one day, having been killed by some unseen force. She later gives birth to two daughters named Kimya and Kuchanua, but Bia ends up falling ill and sadly dies shortly after they are weaned, leaving them in the care of their older sister.

Decided to redo my ref sheet for Bia, my take on Zira's mother. Her name is derived from “Bianca”, which was an alternate name for Zira when TLK2 was still in production, and you'll also noticed that I gave her some traits that she later passes on to her grandchildren. This lioness has a very crappy life, and I’m sorry about that.
