Nephia, along with her twin sister, Elizabeth, were the crown princesses of a royal family of Relic Castle that reigned over what is now known as the Unova region’s Desert Resort approximately 4,000 years ago. According to legend, they specialized into communing with the powers of the afterlife; closely intergrading their supernatural prowess within their rule and combat while such practices were strictly prohibited to those outside of the family. Daughters reaching the age of 20 were to be rigorously trained in the art of espionage, seduction and ghostly mysticism; ensuring their duty to maintain the lineage’s prosperity throughout the coming eras.
However, the twins’ coming births were not a instance of celebration, but a grim tragedy as both were delivered stillborn. Stricken with dire anguish and desperation to not lose their children, the pharaoh and queen would resort to enacting a forbidden resurrection ritual. This required the damned souls of two convicted killers imprisoned within Cofagriguses to be infused with the infants’ bodies. Although the ritual was successfully performed, the souls frequently projected their unbridled wrath for the next three years; their unrelenting powers finally being subdued by the pharaoh and queen’s sealing spells. While the twins had gained immortality and great magic potential as a result of their resurrection, their ghostly nature left them unable to bear offspring; observing the eventual collapse of their dynasty in every waking moment.
With Relic Castle now an unbearable reminder having sunk beneath the harsh desert sands, Nephia and Elizabeth would depart to Castelia City to find a more humble life for themselves. Using funds that they had accumulated by becoming exorcists for hire, their journey eventually brought them to solemnly take residence in the city’s quaint suburban outskirts. Later on, to their much welcomed amusement and excitement, they would learn of a peculiar green Latios being their neighbor; eagerly savoring how easy it is to keep him flustered within their phantasmic clutches.
The resurrection had altered the princess’ secondary typing from Steel to Ghost which allows them to channel powers of the afterlife including those typical to normal Lucarios. Both can utilize their four spectral Cofagrigus-like hands to invoke powerful magic; becoming especially devastating in combination with their affinity of aura techniques. Nephia’s in particular can be infused with Will-O-Wisp; trapping an (un)lucky foe within a searing embrace of smothering lust being one of her favorite tactics. Yet, she is able to control its temperature should she desire to comfort those she intimately holds dear. The twins also have the ability to siphon the souls out of those they kiss which elicits blissful dread and pleasure, although they normally drain until their victims are left completely exhausted.
Nephia knows how to use her haunting charms to get exactly what she wants; especially taking delight in using her spectral hands to scandalously seduce her “prey” with tame or lewd advances. However, she secretly hosts a heavy heart eroded by the countless relations she had witnessed fade away one by one. Despite the sorrows following each departure, she finds solace in communing with and wielding the souls she had smitten before being sent to the afterlife.
