This amazing artwork was made by
Todd_Husky and I am so happy with how he did!!!!
I wouldn't ever be able to make a render as good as this artwork in a time frame I'd be happy with, so I'm using this to continue some of Asher and Renyu's story. I have no set rule saying my story had to be made of only my renders after all uwu

Renyu made sure to take Asher on many little outings to get him familiar with the world she grew up in; the cultural differences between humanity and wickerbeasts were fairly large, but this whole avalian society was on another level. Maybe it was because Asher had never seen a real human planet (a fully colonized and populated one that is), but Avalon was just... completely covered in stuff. And today, Renyu was taking him to the market to continue practicing his avali speech and scratch comprehension, but he also enjoyed the sight seeing.
Perfectly geometric skyscrapers were contrasted with soft cloth covers; fully solid buildings with tents right next to them. Vehicles driving down a road next to a, uh.... “Skskcee'gehkja.” Some kind of bovine creature that had no English name was on sale, according to a holographic display being projected by the drone floating above it. Drones, ships, and the signs! There were so many signs! His reading comprehension of avali scratch was getting pretty good (Renyu made sure to praise him often), so he was reading them as they walked.
“Rifles and Spears. New weapons starting at 649”, “Northern Ice Shop”... Oh, “Hot Kitchen”. They had eaten there before, and “hot” meant a very different temperature to these critters. Sure the pot was steaming, but that’s because the air was so frigid to begin with. Asher was wearing a custom tailored parka to keep warm in this particularly cold atmosphere, which looked a bit out of place when surrounded by raptors that could walk around with no clothes at all if they really wanted to. Renyu herself only had a thin white t-shirt on.
At the least, he had a very official-looking patch on his shoulder that read “Adventure Corps,” along with their logo. An arrow with feathers, surrounded by circles, which were meant to be planets. Made him look like he was supposed to be there. And speaking of the corps, Asher and Renyu had an escort with them, which made things a liiiitle less casual. A fully armored avali, meant more for their protection rather than to keep Asher in check. A wickerbeast, even as small as he was, stood out like a sore claw here, which did make him a bit of a target for ne'er-do-wells who thought he’d be an easy steal.
Someone tried to mug them once, near an alley not far form where they were; their escort choke slammed the guy. Asher picked up on that move immediately, and when that happened again a few days later he did the same thing... But in the heat of the moment Asher did not hold back and kinda... broke all the assailant’s bones. There had been zero attempts at a mugging since then. It shook Asher up a little bit at the time, but Renyu was all over him for hours to calm him down; nuzzling him, hugging him, saying he was just protecting the pack, etc...
Renyu poked Asher’s arm with a lil chirp, pulling the wicker form his thoughts. “Hey, I see you looking at that alley. Do I need to remind you that you’re not in trouble? Self defense, Asher.”
The escort chimed in, “Perfectly justified. He was on a wanted list anyway.”
“Guh,” Asher looked away, “yes, I knoooow, but I did not like how that felt afterwards... I don’t want to get in the habit of doing that.”
“That’s what I’m here for. The armor helps with intimidation, too.”
“Thank you, Kasum. You’re very good at beating the shit out of people for me.”
Renyu patted the wicker’s arm to get his attention, pointing at the stall next to the “hot” food, “How about we try that one today?”
Their sign read “Glowing Trinkets” and they sure weren’t lying; their shelves had a lot of holographics, crystals, and other glowing items on display. Asher nodded, walking towards it with her while he prepared himself to speak another language, waving at the shopkeeper.
The shopkeep beamed at them, hopping out of the stall in excitement, “Yes yes! Hello! Human-speak creature! I see here!” Broken English, but the fact that he spoke English at all was impressive. Maybe he was a traveling merchant? And he remembered seeing Asher around here before.
“Uh, hi! Uh, um, wait, uh,” Asher had come here to practice, he had to code switch, “uh h- [hello! You... know me!]”
He had to try to be a little quieter when he spoke like this, otherwise it would sound like shouting...
The merchant widened his eyes, skittering over to meet Asher only a couple meters away from his stall, patting the wicker’s clawed hand, “[Oh yes! You can speak! Welcome! I’ve seen you here a few times, I was curious! Are you here to look, to buy? I have many shiny things!]”
It took a couple seconds to process the mental switch in his head, but Asher was getting better. “[Yes, I wanted to look, and to speak. Read. I’m new. I’m learning.]”
“[Oh wonderful! Well, I’m no teacher obviously, but here, I can show you some things that you may find interesting!]” Whipping around, he grabbed two things from the stall and held them out in front of Asher. A small palm-sized disc and some kind of handle with nothing on it. Neither of them glowed or shined.
“Uh, [what do these do?]”
“[I’ll let this one speak for itself!]”
The merchant held the disc up, pressed a small button in the center, and it seemed to become active, lights flashing on. Rotating the disc to face Asher, he pressed another button and it floated out of his hand, flashing the wicker with a light, a lot of light as it orbited around his head in the span of a second, then landed back where it began. The merchant held it out to Asher facing up, pressing it again with a grin.
With a little blip, a holographic Asher appeared, fully copied from the neck up, albeit only in the signature Avali orange. Asher smiled, “[That’s interesting! A small me. A mini] ... wickerbeast.” There was no Avali word for Wickerbeast...yet.
Renyu rubbed her head against Asher’s arm with a little trill, “[I prefer the real deal, myself~]”
The shopkeep tilted his head, looking at Renyu’s affection, then looking at Asher. He looked a little confused, but then his eyes darted to the feather necklace barely visible in the fluff of the parka, and he looked smugly at the two of them. “[Oh this is soooooo iiiiiinterestiiiiiing~ This fine lady has you in her sights, hm? She must be how you got here.]”
Renyu folder her arms, looking pleased with herself, “[Maybe so~]”
“[Yes, Renyu brought me from my homeworld a few months ago.]” Asher chimed in, ruffling Renyu’s head feathers with his claws. He was always the kind of person to answer directly. “[And I’ll be working with her in the Adventure Corps after we’re both re-acclimated to avali society. Mostly Renyu for re-acclimation, but they want to make sure I’ll fit too.]”
“[Mmm, yes yes,]” the merchant nodded sagely, “[then maybe this will help you on your adventures.]” Holding the handle out, he flicked a switch and with a high pitched whirr, a glowing segmented blade shot out one segment at a time over the course of a couple seconds. “[Unlimited sharp blade! So long as you have the material to print the blade, of course.]”
“[Oh that could be really useful...]” Asher reached out to hold it, but was interrupted by Kasum.
“[You don’t have to buy that here,] Asher. [I have at least five back at my barracks under my name.]”
With a groan, the merchant rolled his eyes and dropped his arms, “[You are such a killjoy...]” With one hand on his hip, he casually motioned at Asher with the knife, a slight smirk on his snout, “[But I suppose he doesn’t need one on the way there if he can slam an avali so hard into the ground the concrete breaks.]”
Asher quickly looked away, hiding behind his hands in embarrassment, “Oh my GOD”
