I felt the need to do some "free" art - art that wasn't for me, or for a client. Just an experiment with no stakes and no one to disappoint - I decided to opt for something I have less familiarity with: flora!

Thank you so much! And yeah, the pinecones weren't too bad - I started with a light base blocking to get the shape, leaving the whitest areas blank, then used a super sharp, super hot blade to define the bottom of the cone scales, then used a shader to "pull down" the shadows and blend it dark to light. It was actually pretty "easy" :o And yeah, letting the super hot shadows "sink" into the wood gave it a semi-3D appearance, which is great because I wanted the pinecones to be the focus :)
