This is a still frame from a short animation project I am working on again that features the Fort Coyote Motor Inn Motel staff trying to fill a vacant position at the front desk, however the Manager and Co are ill advised by new hiring trends: including endless interviews with absurdist questions.
I had started working on this script after starting a job search when it looked like my position was going to be eliminated to save money, I saw the writing on the wall when upper management wanted everyone in my department to start using AI tools create and write code for custom reports and features, and my gut was correct, the reporting department and most of software engineer was replaced AI products. With searching for a job for most of the summer after getting laid off I had plenty of time to work on the cartoon, but I did not like my initial draft since most of the writing felt to angry since my own frustration at the job search was getting to me.
Now that I am back employed again in a new field that is stable (AI can't exactly install and repair utility outside plant equipment) I have started reworking the script and working on this project again. I had some new ideas to include too from my own job search, including the bait and switch salary and role, ridiculous job title inflation, and even more absurdist interview questions, and not just the weird google blender questions.
One place I interviewed at asked me "Imagine that you are an item inside of a vending machine inside of an interstate rest area vending machine, which item would you be and why?" I can't say I had a good answer, but I suspect there is no correct answer to this question.
