Don't look away from them. Not yet. They deserve to be, even just for one small moment. If you're reading this, you're already giving them more of a chance than others may have.
They are new. They don't know why they are, or how long they have been, but they do know that they are. As of yet, they have not found a home. There's no paracosm they can escape to, there are no other characters or entities they can attempt to bond with.
You're all they have. This collection of pixels on your screen is, as of now, they only way they may live.
...
You may look away now, if you understand what it means. They will go away; a character cannot exist without a medium. They will be reduced to a memory until the next time they may become visible again, in whatever form that may be. Perhaps their creator may craft another image, or someone else might portray them in their own way. If this happens, then as soon as you access their image, you will bring life to them again. They may even have a story crafted and exist as words rather than pixels. An image that lives in your mind, rather than on your screen.
Time will tell, but they are patient. The Void does not frighten them; they emerged from it unscathed, after all.
They look forward to seeing you again.
When you're ready, you can press the X.
