From Day 3: Kansas/Illinois. Springfield has a lot to offer, but one I guess nerdy thing for me was this hotel.
Years ago, I frequented the That Guy With The Glasses website, enjoying the Nostalgia Critic, but also the contributors. Reviewers like Phelous, Film Brain, Obscurus Lupa, Angry Joe, That Chick with the Goggles, so many more, and of course, the Cinema Snob.
Brad Jones, aforementioned snob, made films back his younger days, and one of those films was "Midnight Heat", which you can watch on his own site, Stoned Gremlin (https://www.thecinemasnob.com/midnight-heat-movie). A summary from the site: " 'Midnight Heat' is a story of cops, hookers, killers, and pimps; all centered around one sleazy night in the late 1980's. A cocaine addicted homicide detective (Jake Norvell) is brought out of suspension in order to trail a local prostitute (Bianca Queen) who may become the next victim of The Scalper (Nick Foster), a serial killer who preys on the city's hookers. Meanwhile, her mentally unstable pimp (Brad Jones) attempts to get out of the business while finding it harder to protect his girls from both the killer and from an abusive rival pimp (Buford Stowers). Filmed and completed in 2007."
It's one of his better no-budget films. He makes good use of downtown Springfield, so much so, it feels like another character. There's this really cool scene near the end where the cop and pimp are sharing a smoke on a rooftop. This hotel is that rooftop. I had an idea of staying here for the night and sneaking up to the roof. It turns out, it is now an apartment building, so there went that idea. Maybe I should just tried anyway.
