Another Maverick mod, this one with a lot more internal modifications than the previous gun mods.
I have a few friends who've been into Warhammer 40,000 recently (instead of playing TF2) and a user recently asked me if I could make a gun mod from the game. One, I've never played Warhammer 40k and two, this is by no means a mod to look exactly like something from the game, this is more of an "inspired by" mod.
Performance-wise; air restrictors removed so that more air is allowed to hit the dart and thus, propel it further. Also, the "straw mod" was implemented, which is basically a way to make sure that the air that does goe through isn't caught in any unnecessary places and is directed right to the darts. Made a few modifications to the plunger, WD-40 and upgraded the spring to make it hit harder.
Visual wise; The cylinder shroud was removed so each individual barrel is exposed. Removed a few bits to have the cylinder swing out further. Removed the majority of the cosmetic "hammer" on the back of the slide and overall went with gunmetal gray with nickel barrels, chrome "screws", crimson handle and gold accents all over. The emblem on the slide... I really have no idea if it's Warhammer 40k related at all or if it's just something else that I thought looked cool.

also, nerf really needs to get past this onboard compressor nonsense for their semi autos... all they need is to set up a compressed air firing mechanism like what is used for the average bb gun..the barricade was refreshing, using an electric motor to spit them out, but still..onboard air compressors make way too much noise..
I didn't know that it had air restricters. I might to a little tinkering with my own maverick now. Do you know anything that makes the darts fly straighter? I do some target practice with it when I get bored and it annoys me when the darts drop an inh or two after flying only three feet more or less.
Make custom darts.
Seriously, the stock darts are less aerodynamic than cinder blocks. The suctions cups are GREAT for wind resistance, but drastically impact your distance and speed. Plus the hollowed out center removes mass, which also does not help distance. There's a few guides on how to make custom nerf darts or "stefans" as they're known in the community, on eHow and on the nerfhaven.com forums.

actually reomving air restrictors will make the dart fly more off balance. the purpose of rifleing a gun is to make the bullet spin, which aids it in flying on target, the dart fired from your nerf gun is fored from air pump and does not spin at all, you are lucky if you are getting 10 feet of accuracy.. When i drilled out the restricters on my recon, put a lot more power behind the darts, but seriously decreased the accuracy..
in theory, if you are very careful, and seal off all possible openings that might cause air preasure loss. and use a length of copper pipe that is ONLY big enough for a dart to fit through it, but without any gaps, and rifle that copper tube, the dart will be forced to spin exactly in the same way that a bullet is forced to spin... but it would be a lot of work, and a lot of pain, and would be constantly jamming up............
If you are going to go through all that trouble, i would invest in a soldering gun and go to work at making a gauss pistol..that is the ultimate useless weapon

then dont drop it. anyway, there is no such think as a gauss pistol that is tactically efficient. You cannot draw the amperage you need off of modern batteries, and there isnt a powerful enough microgenerator either.. you cant run gauss gun capable of causing serious damage without a direct high voltage feed.. you could probably make a gauss turret... but.. the pistols, most of them could probably break the skin, and hurt like the devil, but you would have trouble killing someone with it. You also cannot fire them repeatedly.. its one shot, recharge capacitors, one shot, recharge capacitors... rail rifles and gauss guns may be the weapons of choice of space marines in 200 years...well, maybe 50 years...... but they will not be replacing gun powder any time soon..
And don't even get me started on laser guns. those things are comparable to unicorn tech, so much as the dogs of norse legend that chase the sun and the moon through the sky.. it only makes sense if you REAAAALY do not understand the physics involved.. Sure they are mounting defensive lasers on naval ships... naval ships that have big ass nuclear reactors onboard and can spare the power it takes to run them. and pinpoint targeting and focusing software so that it doesnt matter for the directed energy beam to take ten minutes to melt through the hull..
Anyway, gauss guns are only passingly more deadly then the average bb gun... sure you can kill someone with one.. but you can also stab someone with a pencil to the same effect. It is more a "neat thing" then a useful thing..
