The vengeful corpse terrorized the school pool room had finally been revealed.
As it lunged towards them, Scott tried to strike it with the pole. But, to his surprise it went straight through it like a knife through a running faucet.
They all fled to the locker room and barricaded the door.
"Water," said Scott. "It's made of water!"
But Remy and Stephanie were focused on Chuck, who was in shock. They laid him down on a bench. He trembled in terror.
The drain started bubbling and the spirit emerged. The three fled out of the locker room.
"We can't just leave Chuck in there with that thing!" Cried Stephanie.
"Yes," said Scott, "but I don't know how to stop it."
"Neither do I," said Remy.
Stephanie thought hard. "I think I do."
She picked up a second jar that Scott brought in from the science lab.
"It's made of water, right?" And what happens when you mix water with Manganite? Kaboom!"
"That's right," cried Scott. "Brilliant."
"I remember now," said Remy. "We were learning that just before we found this place."
Stephanie was trying to open the jar when--
"No!"
Scott knocked it out of her hands. It landed in the pool and sank to the bottom.
"What did you do that for?" Cried Stephanie.
"You're hands are wet," said Scott, "it will burn you. You need gloves."
"Right. I'll get the jar."
Stephanie took a deep breath and dove in.
Out of the corner of Remy's eye, he saw a red liquid seep into the pool.
"It's coming," he cried. "Stephanie! Get out!"
But Stephanie was frozen with terror the minute she saw it creeping towards her.
Remy was just as terrified as he looked at the jar lying on the bottom. But he knew he had to act fast.
Taking a deep breath, he dove in and retrieved the Manganite.
Scott dove in and pulled Stephanie away from the spirit.
Once Remy climbed out, he put the rubber gloves on and opened the jar.
Scott nearly screamed as it reached for his neck.
Suddenly, he was pulled out. Chuck had come to his senses.
"Hey!" cried Remy. "Catch this!" He threw the Manganite at the water ghost and it let out a scream. It writhed with its arms flailing wildly.
In a cloud of steam, it vaporized beneath the surface. All was quiet.
"We did it," said Scott. "We actually did it! Nice toss, Remy!"
"It's over," Chuck said. "After all these years. Thank you, kids."
The evil ghost was never heard from again.
Chuck was no longer tortured by his traumatic memories and was finally able to move on.
Within a week, he was back as the pools lifeguard. Fully dedicated this time.
As for Remy, Stephanie and Scott, they decided to have a little fun together before the pool was opened to the public.
Remy found himself afraid of the water for a while, but he managed to get over it.
With a little help from his friends, of course.
