OK... the end of the month is sneaking up on me yet again, and so here's my offering for June 2007, entitled "To The Bone". It's kind of a hokey song. They're definitely not my best lyrics-- it's chock full of cliches-- but that doesn't keep me from liking it.
The version you'll be hearing is a very different one than I originally recorded. I wrote "To The Bone" in February of 1992, and between February and October of that year I recorded the original version, the music for which was performed entirely on keyboards. You'll be hard pressed to hear the keyboards on this version, though, which is a complete guitar-rock overhaul recorded by me and my friend Rob under the name Two-Man Clan in 1993. I could go into more back story about how we came to record this, but you don't really care about that, do you? lol I didn't think so. And if you do, just ask me... I'll be glad to regale you with stories about when I was actually musically productive lol.
And as usual, the sound quality could be better (as could my vocals in a couple of places), but before you mention it, remember: 1993 technology, recorded to cassette, ravages of time, etc. etc. lol...
"To The Bone" (4:59)
Written 1992, this version recorded 1993
me - vocals, keyboards
Rob T. - guitars, drum programming
Marble eyes that make me weak
Marble lips that will not speak
I've never seen a tear fall from your eyes
You've never learned how to compromise
Iron heart that cannot ache
Iron will that will not break
No one ever told me that love could hurt so bad
Maybe I'd've changed my mind if somebody had
The path to your heart is unknown
Your love cuts to the bone
The coldest stare I've ever seen
Sharper than the blade on a guillotine
You cut through my defenses, you cut me down to size
Every time you get a chance to criticize
I never thought that my heart would break
But there's only so much that I can take
I want to live my own life, I want to be free
But I can't shake this hold that you've got on me
But someday, if the tables should turn
Then you'll have a lesson to learn
(guitar solo)
Even though I know that I should go away
I've gotten so used to being treated this way
Maybe someday I'll be strong enough
To get myself going when the going gets tough
And then you'll be all alone
Your love cuts to the bone
To the bone

O_O ... lol
Ooooh... there is pretty much nothing I'd like more than to be part of an actual band. The only thing is, and we've had this conversation before, I am *so* worried that I'm not up to the task. I'm a faker, man. Granted, I fake it pretty well lol, but the truth would be revealed if I ever tried to play in front of people. I'm more than willing to give it a shot... I'm just afraid of holding you guys back.
I'd be much more comfortable singing, but the thing about that is, everyone in the band is a songwriter in their own right, and I understand that people would most likely want to sing their own songs.

Listening to your stuff always has a somewhat time-travel-like quality to it. Even though this is from 1993, it's really reminding of what one would have heard in a 1980's disco. 'twas soo important to be cool...
Music-wise, I like the guitar background a lot. Gives a great counterpoint to the monotone singing. The guitar solo is also quite nice - lots of great cadenzas in there, but without losing the coolnes (which probably would have been regarded as a deadly sin at the time ;) )

LOL "time-travel-like quality"... you know, I think that's one of the best compliments you could have given me! My friend Rob gets all the credit for the guitarwork. The tune for the song is mine, but when it came to the solo, I encouraged him to make it his own, and didn't direct him on what to play (not like I could've directed him on how to play a guitar solo anyway lol).
