This is from a short story I wrote form my senior seminar class 5 odd years ago. It is set in a near future world where a mutagenic virus has infected several thousand people who are now forced to live in a walled off section of a huge metropolis. This is Marty, a denizen of the walled off city who was infected when he was 7 years old. He runs with a group of mutant criminals who make a living by stealing and smuggling luxury goods into their walled off city. He has slimy black skin, a long tail, and a long prehensile tongue that also gives him a hyper-powerful sense of smell. He is also ectothermic, and must wear a heating unit to keep his body temp in healthy levels. He longs to tear down the wall and re-integrate with society.
