Story of Sol | Day 388B - October 27th, 2741
Map of the Coal Peninsula
TRANSCRIPT
Following Pathfinder's direction, we went towards Marcus's shop. Didn't have to go too far, but then again this hole seems to go on forever, deeper and deeper.
I do wonder if there is a bottom. But maybe that is a question for another day.
Anyways, found Marcus. Good guy, if a bit of a tech-nut recluse. Reminded me a bit of Wrench way back in the Foundry.
Pathfinder reached out ahead of our arrival for him to prepare some gadgets for us. For me I got a home-made signal tracker, for Lily she got a repurposed STEEL Link communication device. All trackers removed. In addition, he also gave us a bottle of neural blockers, and enablers if the need ever arose.
Before we parted ways, he warned us that STEEL is very much approaching the Kin as a 'Shoot first, ask questions later' problem. If we want to keep our heads, we can't stick our necks out. What Pathfinder has planned for us can help many. No point wasting that potential just to save a few.
We can't help everyone today. But we can try to make things better tomorrow.
And as if some higher-power really wanted to nail the point home, as we were leaving we witnessed a STEEL truck pull up to a building with a green flag draped over a window, guns drawn and forced their way inside.
Shots were fired, and injured wailing of pain was met with more gunshots. The citizens nearby were shooed away, even at gunpoint to prevent anyone from interfering. Then another guard grabbed the green flag and set it ablaze.
Lily looked on, hand twitching by her sidearm. I could see an anger build up within her. A wild, raging inferno fueled by the pain of loss. I managed to snap her out of it and pulled her away, but it wasn't easy.
