                No Ponies Required- Fandom Intersectionality
Bring back "BENDY WEDNESDAY"? Don't mind if I do!
So, If you've seen the movie "Coraline" you've probably seen it a few times, maybe a few dozen, probably enough times to recall 'Cat' saying the line"I don't like rats at the best of times."
I know exactly how he feels. *snickers and itches at her eye*
Though I do love little ratties...
As a rule of thumb, I can enjoy any fandom in the same manner as I can enjoy most of other people's fetishes. If it's something someone else enjoys, makes them happy, doesn't hurt anyone and all participants affected are of appropriate requirements for consent *shrugs and smiles* Meh. Even if it isn't my thing, I may give it a drive-by view, might even stick around a while. I enjoy seeing happy people having a good time nerding out over things they're knowledgeable about or hobbies they're good at.
But THEN when you get a little bit closer. too close *rolls her eyes* Oh sweet mother of all things unholy, save us all from people who take their "fandom" like evangelicals take their outdated medieval religious superstitious nonsense- FAR TOO Seriously and to a degree which is dangerously unhealthy to both them and everyone around them. *shakes her head* From "bronies" to "trekkies" to self-described "otaku"... OURGH... and do NOT get me started on the furry-fuck-fandom. We could be here all year. *laughs* These entitled super-fan twat-waffles whose sense of identity is SO dependent upon their concept of "fandom" that they take any view outside of strictly identical to their own as a grievous personal slight for which they must seek retribution and wage holy war upon the non-believer. Great Moloch, toss them in a mulcher, spread the leavin's on the family garden and be done with 'em. Less said about them the better. Besides, there's already enough negativity out there and we're here to talk about a more positive aspect of "fandom" anyways.
YES! *clasps her hands and nips at her nails* There is a deeeee-light-ful area, like a swinger's bar on free-shot-Friday. You get these little moments, little spaces where the car keys have been left in the fish-bowl and the creativity of some folkes reaches across the aisle, picks bits and bobs, pieces and tidbits of assorted interests and squishes them together like a randy giraffe giving a special hello to an adventurous donkey. And before you know it, something new has been born. Mixing one aesthetic with another, melting genres, written fictions intertwining characters and worlds of assorted IP, sci-fi, superheroes, fantasy and our real-world history, it can be some pretty fun, creative and thought-provoking stuff- if you're willing to give it a chance.
*shrug* Or you can be a stubborn dick and demand that everything remain the way you say it should be. As Eazy-E said "It's your life. Do with it what you're gonna". Seems a damn shame to deny yourself opportunity if you ask me but what do I know?
Enjoy your night you scratch'n'sniff pocket-pals of the universe. Stay warm, stay hydrated, hug your loved ones and take your meds- or do none of that shit and go out like a fireball, strapped to the payload of a trebuchet, launched at trump tower while you belt out a chorus of Bon Jovi's "Blaze of Glory". *chuckles* I don't judge. *burps* Take care of yourselves and take care of someone else. Big Love.
