Gruntlings are small, plump, mostly herbivorous mammals native to both Elysium and Arcadia. They scamper through the underbrush in search of mushrooms, edible herbs, berries, small insects, and eggs.

These creatures, much like Earth rabbits, are very prolific breeders. After a 6-week pregnancy, female Gruntlings produce litters of anywhere between 4 and 8 young. The younglings are self-sufficient after 3 months and can reproduce after a year.

Due to the ease with which they can increase their population, Gruntlings have become the favored livestock in many Arcadian countries. Their soft, fragrant, and sweet flesh is considered a delicacy (even though some people can't stomach it due to the inherent cuteness of these little beasts).

Their name comes from the high-pitched grunts that they produce when communicating with one another.
