Ðaov has two major continents. Well, three, but the ethnicity that populates that one I haven't even named yet, so you're just getting these two.
The Dzhhunn live in the equator, in Dowazh, while the Yuyà live in the north pole, in Nozz. Because of the way the planet's tilted, it's actually warmer at the poles than at the equator; the former is where the planet's tropics are. Oh yeah, and the poles each get a summer of straight sunlight and a winter of straight darkness. Hope you like insomnia! And hypothermia!
Notwithstanding winter, the equator is consistently the coldest place on the planet, and the result is that the Dzhhunn are bigger and fatter, with thick fur that's darker to blend into the taigas of Dowazh. Their clothes come in layers of thick cloth; the most important article of clothes for them are their zhhavam, which is a kind of skirt that's primarily made to protect their pants from mud. Or to cover their mud-covered pants.
The Yuyà, however, are thinner with brighter fur and lighter clothing. They were raised in Nozz, which has the largest rainforests and deserts of Ðaov.
They no longer live on Ðaov anymore, however. A few millenia ago, they tried to expand their teritory by invading Dowazh. They were pushed back to Nozz, with the Mmun colonizing the southernmost tip of the continent. Centuries of on and off warfare ensued. Eventually the two entered a bitter rivalry that partly led to the corruption of the Dzhhunn. A mass revolt saw the creation of ZHOZH, who threw everything they had at the Yuyà. All resistance was wiped, and the entire planet would end up being theirs.
ZHOZH would later take over Nnaov, Ðaov's sister planet, and that's when the Zhhanun began their conquest of space. The few Yuyà who were organized and rich enough fled into outer space, their ancestors living as pirates and rebels, just outside of ZHOZH's reach. Those who remained on their home planet became indoctrinated into Mmun culture, eventually diluting into the greater thanun population.
