I really like your take on Smokey, all though it's interesting to see Woodsy all trim and Buffed out. Kinda helps the owl fit in with the conservative image. Anyway. My uncle Raymond who was a Forest ranger during my childhood years would occasionally play "Smokey the Bear" for Children's gatherings and in grade schools to make youngsters aware of the dangers of forest and range fires. He also made me wise to the fact that sometimes fires are part of the natural process of a forest. So this image means a lot to me.
That's a cool memory to have of your Uncle.
I've always thought of Smokey as large and built from years of hard work, sort of a John Henry character.
He's all too often looking... fat. Just doesn't work for me.
Originally Woodsy was fat too, but they've recently slimmed him down and put a shirt on him. I just took the shirt back off.

Ranger Rick fanart's just about impossible to come by. I always suspected that nobody remembered the little guy, so I'm glad to see any rendition of him. I read the magazine in the 90s as a kid, preferring the chubbier version of him (as well as the 70s/80s version which seemed more rustic). Thanks to Rick I was motivated to become a junior park ranger, earned a little badge for it. But again, you never hear about him - Smokey's well known, and Woodsy is... well, on the occasional sticker at a campsite and on that one episode of Family Guy -- but Rick's confined to a small section of school libraries. Just wish he'd get more recognition.
