Silence. Not even a bird, nor the wind, broke this overwhelming silence.

My eyes stayed locked on the street.

From the moment I crash landed on this planet, I realized quickly I had to be careful around these small aliens. But this..? I watched as Pippy strode through the carnage. At first, a flicker of my mind wondered if he was scavenging, but he was pulling off tags from the corpses, not entirely incinerated.

A burning pain rose in my chest, but I didn't dare make even a squeak. Eyes watered, but I couldn't blink to wash the tears away. What kind of monsters would do this?

Pippy wasn't helpless, I knew that from the first meeting him... Even as I grabbed him, he had stabbed my hand and- Oh by the stars, I GRABBED him...

Turning my eyes to my hand, I flexed my pink digits. So soft, tender, meticulous, perfect for finding their way into electronics- perfect for crush- No. No, no, no! I didn't hurt Pippy! Right?!

Residual fears bubbled to the surface, and I barely registered when the street came closer. Thumping to my knees, it was then that the smell hit me. I covered my nose, but it didn't drown out the lingering stench. How long ago could this have happened? Would Pippy have been among those had he not been with me?

Before I knew it, the pain in my leg returned as a subtle thrum. A reminder of the first day on this planet. Painfully pulling a metal pole out from my leg... Seeing Pippy, his eyes full of hate, of rage. Directed solely towards me...

Then that Rynar.

It ignored me, picked Pippy up and-

My vision blurred with fresh tears as I was snapped back to reality, staring down at Pippy, who looked up at me. I must seem pathetic to him... I'm not a soldier, I'm barely a savior! Just a frail Tordenchi, caught in a place she was never supposed to be! He's stronger than I'd ever be! How can he look at this and not drop?! I... I...

I was shaking uncontrollably, and anxiety and fear rose along with my quickened breathing. I could hear my heart in my ears, thumping faster and faster. I felt like a tiny creature caught in a trap, knowing it's done running! My eyes snapped back and forth as I stammered out pitiful squeaks...

Mom... Dad... Brother- I...

Pippy was standing before me, looking up still, patiently waiting. For the first time, I felt a true connection. As if without words, he was trying to calm me down, his eyes locking with mine. Holding my chest, I gave out a pained squeak, unable to speak as a clutching hold formed in my throat.

I don't know how long had passed as I lay there on the street. With time and comfort from the only alien I knew from this world, my heart slowed down again. Though my breath remained shaken, I looked to Pippy and gave him a form of comfort back.

A pained and shaken smile, and my hand giving him a thumbs up...
