Well, we made it home with not that many worries. The flight was a good one, and I couldn't wait to see my dogs again. Their greeting was very warm.
While we were in England, for my daughter's wedding, I had the wonderful opportunity of visiting 'The Nutshell', which is the smallest pub in the UK. My daughter's mother-in-law's parents managed the pub some 50 years ago, and this led to the image I have posted. The town we were in was founded in the 1100s. During the medieval times, it was common practice for the builders to toss a living cat into the wall before bricking it up. This utterly horrible practice (by modern standards) was meant to keep evil spirits away. Heidi explained to me that her father was doing some work in the basement and found this mummified cat in the wall. Placing it in a glass case, something his wife did not want him to do, he hung it from the ceiling where it became part of the decor. Typical of pubs, there is also a whole display of odds and ends on the walls, and money of all sorts on the ceiling placed there by visitors.
The house we stayed in was built in and around the 1500s, and it was beautiful. I do believe it was haunted, but only by smiling spirits of the annoying kind. Our bedroom door was constantly thumping, apparently moving with an unfelt breeze; even when I blocked it with my shoes.
It will be a few more days until I catch up with things. I'll be back after that.
Cheers for now,
Vix
