Leo Lion Sr. stands as the towering head (and occasional headache) of the Lion family. Husband to the far more composed Catherine and father to the ambitious reporter Katie and the ever-curious Leo Jr., Leo Sr. is both a provider and a professional blowhard. At 6’9” and roughly 340 pounds of equal parts muscle and “dad bod,” he’s an imposing figure—one whose bark often outmatches his bite (but not by much). He runs a local construction company with pride, though Catherine’s co-COO position paycheck tends to remind him who the real breadwinner is.
A self-proclaimed “man’s man,” Leo Sr. is known for his booming voice, blunt honesty, and legendary lack of tact. He’s been scaring off potential friends since grade school, his “truth bombs” dropping harder than his worksite’s steel beams. He met Catherine back in high school after defending her honor from a particularly vile ex-boyfriend, and the two bonded over their shared appreciation for dark humor and their mutual distaste for sugar-coated nonsense.
Competitive to a fault, Leo Sr. turns even friendly barbecues into emotional gladiator matches. Cross him, and you’ll meet his temper—though, in classic sitcom fashion, his bravado usually backfires spectacularly. Despite trying to play the “cool, jolly dad” around Leo Jr.’s friends, most kids find his glare and gruffness more terrifying than endearing. Luckily, Catherine and Katie are the only ones capable of reigning him in—mostly by reminding him that volume doesn’t equal victory.
When he’s not butting heads with the city’s local hero (and his son’s idol) Stuart Moose or clashing with the goofy members of The Stupid Team, Leo Sr. tries—sometimes successfully—to be a good father. He worries about his son’s sensitivity and love for ballet, insisting on father-son camping trips to “toughen him up,” all while secretly admiring Leo Jr.’s compassion and intellect. His misguided machismo masks a father who deeply fears his boy might grow distant—or worse, grow better than him.
And in true sitcom irony, Leo Sr. once hired a “refined, cultured” nanny named Shiro Fox—completely unaware she’s an international thief with a rap sheet longer than his building contracts. Yet through all his blunders, temper flares, and dinner-table debates, Leo Lion Sr. remains the heart of the Lion family: loud, proud, and learning—slowly—that strength isn’t just about muscle.
