[2025.04] Flight II Radostnyy-class Destroyer Leader
Originally a much-delayed modernization program, the Flight II Radostnyy (Joyful)-class destroyers were quickly pushed into service following combat experience which showed that the stealth-focused design of the Flight I Radostnyy-class was not viable in the orbital support roles many of them would find themselves cast into, leading to the loss of many ships over Shiberia and Fox country.
Compared to their older cousins, the Flight II ships mount a much more significant suite of R-888 missiles in a "vertical" launch configuration paired with a more powerful AESA radar array and ECM/EW suite not found on Flight I vessels. To allow for this, the ships were lengthened and fitted with a more powerful reactor, leading to increased radar-cross section and a greater heat signature. This shifts their approximate real-life equivalent role from that of an SSGN to more of a DDG or air-defense cruiser.
The pictured ship is Hull 15, Hetman Rashoobmovsky, so named to curry favor with the large Cossack contingent in the upper ranks of the Ministry of Defense (in this universe, Wrangel's southern front is able to link up with Kolchak's forces and play a significant role in delaying Bolshevik forces for long enough for the Mars rocket to be completed and launched). The ship plays a significant role in Book 2 of the "foxthing" series, which will chronicle the exploits of Borkovsky and Fenley in Catelandia.
This is the second of the ships involved in my various writing projects. As mentioned in the post for the Flight I, I had a lot of fun with this design.
