'She couldn’t tell how long she was there before everything went crazy, when her mind was a whirlwind of anguished desperation but the next thing she really remembered was looking down the edge of the cloud she was sitting on. Beneath her was an impenetrable pale mist, but she knew what was beyond it. Beyond the condensed veil, there were the cold seas of Middle Zealand and beyond that, the final resting place of Cloud Cuckoo Land.

It might be yours too. There was suddenly a disturbing image in her head. One that she was destined to re-enact. She saw herself jumping over the edge, diving deep into a maelstrom of a dark and stormy night, using whatever she could grasp to build some impressive creation to scoop up Cloud Cuckoo Land from its watery fate.

Fate. It was that word that put the realisation of her actions into perspective. What if she did jump but couldn’t find anything to build in time? She would simply plummet to her fate, like a grim repeat of Octan Tower.

But I wouldn’t come back. What would even be the point?

Her neck craned downwards, daring herself to take the jump and take the chance. It would be all or nothing. The return of her home or the release from this nightmare. She took deep breaths to ready herself, leaning back into a pounce position.

In a while, crocodile.'
