Original Species: Ogreboon
The Ogreboon is a large, omnivorous primate native to the grasslands of Eastern Elysium. This massive simian displays a very aggressive disposition. While it can sustain itself on a diet of mostly plants (seeds, roots, fruits, etc), whenever it gets the chance to eat meat, it will take it.
Ogreboons live and hunt in groups usually consisting of a single dominant male, his harem of females, and their young. Females are around 10% smaller than males and serve as the main strike force during hunts. They use their smaller size and greater speed to scatter herds of herbivores and single out their weakest members. Once the target is separated from the herd, the female Ogreboons will chase it to a pre-planned spot where the male waits to strike. Once in range, the male Ogreboon will leap out of cover and wrestle down the prey animal, killing it with a bite to the neck or by breaking the neck with his arms.
After the kill, the male gets to eat first, allowing his favourite females to join him once he's satisfied his first hunger. The remaining females and their young will patiently wait for their turn. If any member of the group steps out of line, the male will discipline them swiftly and brutally.
When prey is scarce, the Ogreboons will forage for other sources of food. Aside from me, their favourite food is a type of fruit native to the grasslands they inhabit.
Ogreboons have a similar social structure to Earth's lions. Females born into the group will remain there for their entire life, while young males will be chased away once they start showing signs of sexual maturity (typically around the age of 10). These bachelors will then spend up to 5 years traveling through the grasslands and seizing their own harems from other males, mostly those past their prime. A typical tenure for a dominant male is about 10 to 20 years, depending on their fitness. If chased away by a younger contender, the old males can still live up to 5 years on their own before succumbing to old age or predation.
