That's not such a bad idea especially for the chorus. Like start out simple then ramp it up for the chorus then blow them away with something different for the next "verse". I tend to look at songs now as "Intro, Verse, Chorus, Verse, Bridge, Chorus, Outtro." Its how I tend to structure my songs now as that's what seems to grab the most attention and be something familiar enough that people like.
