He and his older sister Byylah were left to be raised by a troupe of Flare Dancers after their parents decided to give them up in order to spare them a harrowing fate. Their parents were wanted for ambushing messengers of the Royal Family and stealing vital documents and sheets of music that contained mysterious enchanting melodies. However, they did not expect anybody would be in such desperation to retrieve them.
Running out of places to hide, their parents gave up the chase and turned themselves in so nobody else would get hurt. This meant not only leaving their children up, but also abandoning the lizalfos tribe that they were part of. However, before they left Umbelozar, Byylah and the troupe of dancers, they examined the stolen documents. Through them, they learned how to communicate with those that were out of reach with the use of magical incantations through the majesty of music. The Flare Dancers used this to keep in touch with Umbelozar's and Byylah's parents as the two reptiles awaited their punishment from the Royal Family until they could no longer hear the voice of either parent.
Seeing as they were now the guardians for these two little lizalfos children, they decided to train them in the art of dance as it was not merely just a tradition of their kind, but also it was how they would typically fight against opposing forces. While incorporating dance into combat wasn't something lizalfos or dinolfos were especially known for, these vastly different creatures of Hyrule were both native to the Death Mountain region, so encounters between lizalfos and Flare Dancers were very uncommon. What was a challenge for the Flare Dancer troupe was trying to balance out raising Umbelozar and Byylah like them, while keeping their native lizalfos instincts, culture and combat intact.
As the two lizalfos grew, they developed a powerful passion for dancing and excelled magnificently. During a session where the two tried sparing with each other in a combination of dance and hand-to-hand combat, Umbelozar had his sister pinned down and bent her leg into a submission hold. When he realized he had given her a severe hyperextension, he relinquished her and begged her forgiveness. Except… Byylah wondered what he was apologizing for. The back of her knee was perfectly fine! It was at that moment they discovered Byylah was born a contortionist.
Byylah's remarkable flexibility enabled her to become an even more remarkable dancer. She turned out to have abilities that even the greatest belly dancers could only dream of. Byylah could roll her belly in any given direction, but not just that, she could sent multiple belly waves flowing across her tummy in any given direction. She could even send belly waves in different directions simultaneously like a raging hurricane at sea! Umbelozar had the ability to roll his belly as well, but it was limited to going vertically like most belly dancers.
