...Anyway, I enjoy The Lion King and Kimba the White Lion, so I drew this.

"Inspiration" is common in Disney movies -- We'll leave it at that and be mature about it, yus?

P.P.S - I based my Kimba drawing on the original manga, not the show, so he does not have the hair tuft. Think I should add it in...?

I have never watched/read Kimba, but I've wanted to ever since I was a kid. There was an ad for it at the end of all my Pokemon VHS tapes and it always looked like something I'd enjoy. x3

I'm looking at my copy of Volume 1 and on the cover his tuft is yellow :P but in any of the series/movies he's never been drawn with any yellow on him. Not to mention he loses it as an adult considering on vol 2's coer as he's grown up and his mane is pure white.
I think I am going to add the tuft, the more I look at it, the more I think it needs it. Simba is young here, too, but maybe Kimba is TOO young how I drew him. x3
Haha, yeah, his tuft is yellow on my cover, too. x3 I think I'd keep it white though.
I always thought that the yellow tuft meant that it was Rukio, for some reason. x3 I know his is white, too though.

The way I told Rukio and Rune apart was the black tipped ears. Rune looked identical to Kimba while Rukio lacked the black tips.
She loves my mom, but anyone else she attacks like an evil demon! I went down into her lair for toilet paper once, and she swiped at me from under the bed as I walked by and almost crippled me!! She's a DEVIL! x3
Though I will say that the old American dubbed version of Kimba never fails to make me laugh. xD The lines and the way they cut things out... it's great. xD

I say that Simba is pretty close to how the animators color him. x3
Also, I used Google for help with Simba's colors! x3
"The Fox and the Hound", for instance, was an extremely naturalistic book, with the fox the enemy of the hound and the hunter for its entirety. It was a series of epic hunting strategies, with the final one costing both the fox and the hound their lives.
Disney takes a lot of...liberties...with their versions of things... x3
That's why when people say, "Kimba and The Lion King have entirely different stories!" I like to point them in the direction of ANY OF DISNEY'S OTHER MOVIES BASED ON THINGS. (Which is all of them) xD
My theory is that Disney actually planned to make a Kimba movie -- but couldn't obtain the rights.
Either way, I love both!

also, simba is lion in swahili so it's more giving him an african name than taking the k and replacing it with an s.
And actually, KIMBA'S name was originally SIMBA way back when, for the same reason (it meaning Lion in Swahili), but they decided that that was a smidge too boring, and swapped out the S for a K. Maybe that's what I said, and you read it backwards? x3
So I find it funny that Kimba's name was originally Simba, and Simba's name was originally Kimba! xD But I think that's because Disney was actually aiming for a licensed tribute at first. It's a shame it fell through for whatever reason, but I'm glad they made TLK anyway. :D I wish they made more animal movies today...
Has this movie ever been translated into Swahili? Do they call Simba "Lion" there? xD
I notice Lion King and Kimba fans are getting along a lot better nowadays, which makes me happy, as a fan of both. x3

TLK starting off as an adaptation of jungle emporer leo is just speculation, what we do know is that tlk was originally titled "king of the jungle" and was about a war between baboons and lions.
I won't deny that there are similarities between kimba and lion king but if lion king ripped off anything.....it's hamlet. and by ripping off I mean it's an adaptation
Like how the lion king 2 was an adaptation of romeo and juliet
TLK1.5 was an adaptation of rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead.
TLK3 the lion guard is perhaps the oddest choice for adaptation....................the avengers.
I mean, I love the lion king. I love the avengers. will I love this new movie and show? 1: Most likely and 2: If they get robert downey jr to voice an important character I am sold!
One thing for sure is that they did know what Kimba was - a lot of fans insist that they didn't, but the animators and voice actors mention being fond of it, so...well....whether it was based on it or not, they at least knew about it. xD
Yeah, the weird thing about it being an adaptation of Hamlet though, to me anyway, is that they only said that after people asked if it was based on Kimba - before that, it was advertised as an "original story". I could see it being a mash-up of many things, though, as most movies are. In fact, all the good movies are based on like 3 other good moves. xD xD xD
Wow, did they actually say they are based on those movies? I have never seen them, so I wouldn't know. xD
They flat out said TLG would be "lion king meets the avengers. Now that I think of it if they got RDJ to voice simba that'd be pretty awesome.
I wish Disney made more animal movies lately. D:
