I decide to draw this lovely creature after a tumblr blog introduced it to me (polychaete-of-the-day, go check it out). This was an incredibly fun excuse to get very self indulgent with over-the-top colors.
Back in art history class, I remember I liked Rococo a lot because I’m a sucker for pretty colors and swishy brushstrokes. My teacher hated it because he found it both aesthetically and thematically repulsive cause it’s shallow and saccharine and emblematic of the frivolity of the French nobility.
I once painted this very self indulgent pastel still life and he joked that looking at it gave him a toothache (his assessment was absolutely correct btw). I’m sure he’d be glad that I’m still doing art but this particular piece would probably bore a hole through his eyes.

Art is a thing of sincerity, not rules for the stuck-up (which is ironic for your teacher to scoff at Rococo for emanating "frivolously noble"). He has a lot to learn still. This is a deliciously hypnotic piece, and I hope that you continue to create without the judgement of past educators haunting your atmosphere.
