It is an immense pleasure for me to finally upload this mini-comic I commissionned from the one and only Moonski !
The kitchen glowed softly under the warm shimmer of runes etched into the kitchen worktop. At its center, a large cauldron simmered with gentle pops and ripples of light, each bubble rising like a whispered promise of comfort. The air smelled of herbs, cream, and salmon. And a hint of something sweeter — something magical.
The young human female tending the mixture leaned forward with care, stirring slowly so as not to strain her back. Her rounded belly pulled her forward, heavy with the life she carried. She exhaled through a small ache climbing from her lower spine to the base of her neck, one of the many reminders of her approaching due date. She paused, bracing her hands at the small of her back and her neck with a tired but affectionate smile, as though silently accepting this discomfort as part of something precious.
Behind her, in the dim hallway that led to the kitchen, a soft glow began to shift.
Her dragon mate had noticed her discomfort.
At first he stood in his natural form — tall, serpentine, elegant — but he inhaled deeply and let magic ripple through him. Light spiraled around his limbs, softening his silhouette, reshaping his proportions. His wings folded neatly, his posture straightened, and his features settled into a more humanoid expression while retaining his draconic grace. When the transformation finished, he remained unmistakably himself, yet adapted, more able to touch her with gentleness and precision.
Silently, he stepped through the arched doorway. His tail swept close to the ground to avoid making noise. She didn’t hear him approach, too focused on stretching her shoulders against the persistent ache.
When he finally reached her, he paused just a breath away, admiring the quiet strength in the line of her back, the way her hands pressed against her hips with a mix of frustration and determination. Then, with deliberate tenderness, he set his palms on her hips.
She startled only for a second — not in fear, but in recognition. She knew that touch.
His hands slowly glided upward, along the sides of her waist, until they slipped carefully underneath the curve of her belly. And then, with exquisite care, he lifted it.
The relief washed through her like warm water.
Her breath caught in her throat — not in pain, but in sudden release, the absence of weight so immediate it felt unreal. She relaxed fully against him, her shoulders dropping, her eyes fluttering half shut.
Her dragon mate lowered his head, nuzzling his cheek against her hair, his breath warm and faintly shimmering with leftover magic. His arms remained steady beneath her belly, supporting her as though she weighed nothing at all. The runes on the kitchen worktop and the marks on the dragon’s arms glowed a little brighter, reacting to the soft emotional pulse radiating from them — a protective instinct as old as dragonkind.
For a long moment, they stayed like that. Her leaning back into his chest, him holding her as though she were the most fragile treasure in the world. The kitchen faded into a cocoon of warmth, steam, and tenderness.
When she finally turned to face him, supported by his hands, her smile was soft — tired, yes, but full of love. He answered with a gentle touch of his forehead to hers, a draconic gesture of devotion, careful not to disturb her balance.
Then he wrapped his arms fully around her, making sure her belly could rest comfortably between them. She slipped her arms around his torso, nestling against him with a contented sigh.
In that quiet room, with the cauldron humming, the runes glowing, and their hearts beating in unison, there was no need for words. Only the certainty that they faced this journey together, step by step, breath by breath, held by love as warm and steady as the magic surrounding them.
