“Are you alright? You’ve been staring at the mirror for five minutes.”

“I will never see my face.”

“What?”

“I will never see my face.”

“What are you talking about? You’re looking at it right now.”

“No, this is just a reflection of my face.”

“Well, what if I took a picture of your face?”

“No, that would be a high-definition photo of my face.”

“But it’s still your face.”

“Yes, but it wouldn’t be my real, genuine face—the face that’s actually connected to my head, which is connected to my body.”

“I mean… it’s just a face. It’s not really that special if you think about it.”

“You can see my face, my family can see my face, the world can see my face… but I will never, ever be able to truly see my face.”

“You’ve… really thought this through, haven’t you?”

“I have. Even if a man claimed he knew everything, there would always be one thing he wouldn’t truly know—what he looks like from the neck up. I’ve seen a lot in my lifetime, but the one thing I’ll never see is… my face.”
