Wild Cards: Jack and Ace, Part 6
Swinging the hammer took both hands, and he had to both swing and move in order to keep back the clothed guy. This however made it so he couldn’t do anything to the cat who was darting around and throwing fireworks. There may have been a brief moment where he could grab a metal pole to huck at the cat, but then this clothed man would grab and freeze whatever he could on the horse.
Then, things took a sharp turn. The clothed one let go of a frozen shin pad, a stray rocket popped with hot fire, and the metal shattered from the sudden temperature change. The horse was already wearing down, but now the two had another strategy. In a matter of minutes, the armor was broken off the villain, and he was just a horse with a hard hat and sledge. Disarmed, Tired, and in pain, the horse was on his knees while the cat and covered one looked down on him.
“Well, that was fun.” The cat smirked, “But now the show’s over.”
“Let’s finish the job.” The hooded one reached his frozen hand for the horse’s face.
“FREEZE!” The shout stopped all three of them, and they turned to see the cops from before aiming guns on them all.
The hooded one was still, but then moved his hand away, “Consider yourself lucky.” He turned to the police and gestured to the horse, “He’s all yours.”
“Hands in the air.” The cops shouted, “All three of you!”
“But we helped you.” the man said,
“Hands In The Air!”
Taking the warning this time, The hooded figure obeyed. The cat did too, holding something in her raised hands.
“Drop everything.” The cops glared at them, “You too, cat!”
“As you wish, officer.” The cat smirked and released her fingers.
Out of her palms and onto the ground fell a pair of smoke bombs with short fuses. Smoke bellowed and masked the sight of them all. Some coughed on the smoke, but the cat went running. She dashed for an alleyway, then across another street, darting in a wild zig-zag to make herself hard to follow.
After making enough distance, the cat leaned against the wall of a building with a big smile. She took a moment to catch her breath, and laugh, “I live for this kind of stuff.” She looked to the back of a dumpster and eyes went wide that it only had an empty trash back and moldy banana peel. “Oh, I’m in the wrong alleyway.” She shrugged and stood up, “Time to run for Saber Street.” She stretched as she walked for the middle of the alleyway and paused. Someone else was in this alleyway. It was that guy from before. The man gladded in clothes that covered his whole body and hid his face behind a mask. He was panting in the middle of the alley, they were looking at each other.
“Oh, Wait… why did you follow me?” She asked,
“You seemed to know where to go.” The guy said, “I’m Frostbite, by the way.”
“Nice to meet you, but is that your hero name or…” The cat shook her head at her own stupid question, “You can call me Lightshow.”
“Nice meeting you.” Frostbite stood up, “Sorry I don’t shake your hand.” The guy showed his fingers, “This doesn’t have an off switch.”
“I had a feeling,” Lightshow said, “Thanks for helping back there, by the way. I was running out of rounds.”
“That jerk had it coming.” Frostbite said, “All of them, for what they do.”
“Yeah, but there's only so much we can do.” Lightshow stretched again, “but I’m sure we can find the rest when they start poking their heads out.”
“Do you know how many there were?”
Lightshow shook her head, “I’ll find out later on the news.” She looked at her gauntlets, “Maybe I can figure out more of what to carry for the next fight too.”
“Sounds like you have your limits.” the guy said, “You know, we could try teaming up.”
Lightshow looked at him, and then smirked, “I’m not gonna say no, but don’t think I’ll show who I really am.” She jumped onto the dumpster from before, “I’ve gotta go. Lift my stuff in another alley.” Then she climbed the fire escape and left.
