I come from long line of relatives who either gave their lives or gave their health to the military. My dad was 1Para my grandad was SAS my other grandad was navy and vaious uncles and aunts/cousins were in the RAF.
I havent served myself mainly because I watched the system chew various folk I care about up and spit them out pretend that they cared for them and then promptly ignored their needs. My dad was very vocal/against me or my sisters oining the military as a result although I did almost join the navy. But no no lived experience myself other that living on various bases or noticing the long periods of time between me seeing my dad

I cannot tell you how impressed I am at your dedication to both this and Found. I realize they are both very personal stories, but still, by the sounds of it, it would've been very easy to just walk away from them on a few different occasions. I dunno how much I have a right to be, but I'm proud of you for persevering! It's inspiring!
And, recalling back to another comment, as former US military, I don't think your dad was not wrong to discourage you. I always say it was the best worst decision of my life. I joined at a point in my life when I felt like it was my only option, but I can't say I'd recommend it. It is interesting to hear that it's not just the US government that completely fails at supporting its veterans, though. I guess I always had this idea that other countries were better about it.
Anyway, sorry about the ramble. I just wanted to throw in my two cents.
