Name: Lexi Joyhart
Alias: The Back-Alley Saint
Lexi began her journey across the stars as a medic and part of a small humanitarian organization which aimed to provide medical relief to undeserved colonies and slums. She quickly became one of their most effective agents, patching up miners after collapses, caring for refugees fleeing corporation war-zones, and setting up in areas other core worlds have written off as unprofitable.
But it was not to last. Her organization had caught the ire of a medical mega-corporation that had dominated the medical supply and emergency response markets, and the negative PR was just the icing on the cake. They would not let this stand. Through a range of political pressuring, supply chain strangleholds, and predatory lawsuits, the small organization stood no chance. They were crushed into bankruptcy, and their workers were left without a source of income. For most, this was the end. They had their own problems to look to, but for a small few, they carried on. Lexi was one of them.
She turned to salvaging to secure alternate sources of funding. Derelict ships, abandoned research stations, scrap moons, anything was a valid target really, as long as it could secure the necessary supplies and funding to continue on her mission. Her life became a cycle of endlessly scavenging for supplies at night, then treating her patients during the day.
Everything changed one day when a massive ship of unknown origin and was spat out of a wormhole, nearly causing a collision with her vessel. It was made out of an alien material, completely foreign to anything she'd ever seen. She breached the hull and explore the interior, stumbling into what appeared to be a research laboratory. The tools would certainly be helpful to her efforts, but one thing caught her eye. It was a piece of living metal, squirming and writhing within its container, seemingly eager to escape its confinement. At her approach, the thing seemed to calm down, looking up at Lexi with non-existent eyes, which was oddly endearing. Lexi fiddled with the controls and managed to open the container, reaching out to the material to touch it. The moment her finger came into contact, it fused with her arm muscles and nervous systems in a way that no specialist was able to understand or remove since.
The tech enhanced her in ways beyond anything she could ever imagine. She gained enhanced regeneration, matter manipulation, and other remarkable feats that allowed her to accomplish seemingly miraculous feats of healing. Word spread quickly through the slums, back-alleys, and forgotten corridors of these feats, which eventually reached the ears of the medical mega-corporations. A healer that treated her patients with no supplies and no clinics was dangerous to their bottom-line. They knew someone of her convictions would not be open to working with them, so their remaining recourse would be to put an end to her, and if possible, obtain her tech for themselves.
The mega-corporations began calling her the "Back-Alley Saint" in a mocking or derogatory manner, but little did they know, that name would come to haunt them. The cloaked wolf-girl with bright glowing blue eyes and a dim halo of light always seemed to appear just long enough to cure the needy before vanishing right before they could ever catch up.
To these mega-corps, she is the living key they need to secure their utter dominance over healing and medicine and completely reshape the galaxy according to their visions and missions. Hunted, revered, and always on the move, Lexi continues on her own mission of healing while trying to unlock the secrets of her new tech. She hopes that once she does, it could unlock a future where anyone could gain access to the medical care they need, regardless of their social class, location or financial situation.
